I bring more than twenty years of experience in publishing to my editorial and consulting work. I am a literary agent with Massie, McQuilkin & Altman in New York and have agented #1 New York Times bestsellers and books that have received the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Whiting Award, the PEN/Faulkner Award, the PEN/Hemingway Award, the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, the MWA Edgar Award, the Carnegie Medal for Excellence, and the Caldecott Honor. I am based in Missoula, Montana, and work with writers nationally and internationally.

I offer in-depth developmental editing and consulting for writers at any stage of the writing process, with a focus on literary and upmarket fiction, thrillers, young adult fiction, narrative nonfiction, and nonfiction book proposals. My work centers on structure, voice, character, narrative tension, and clarity of vision, alongside a practical understanding of how books move through today’s publishing landscape.

Writers often seek my input after an MFA program or extended workshop experience, when the manuscript needs an industry-informed read before its next phase. Still others come at the moment a project has stalled, even after years of sustained work. Others come when a manuscript feels close but not quite right, or when they want experienced guidance on next steps before submission.

My editorial work is limited and selective, allowing for deep attention to each project. In addition to full developmental edits, I also offer 30-minute consultations for writers seeking focused guidance on any aspect of their work or process. For these consultations, I read up to 20 pages in advance to ground the conversation in the writing itself.
